A RARE LATE MING WUCAI SAUCER DISH
WANLI SIX-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN A DOUBLE CIRCLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1573-1619)

The central medallion enamelled with a lively scene of a figure on the back of a yellow tiger, brandishing a sword in one hand, riding through a landscape of pine trees, flowers and clouds, the shallow well of the dish with four of the 'Five Poisons', snake, wasp, centipede and frog, alternating with floral sprays, the exterior with the fifth 'poison', a scorpion, amidst further snakes and clusters of grass and plants, the low foot with a classic border (glaze flake infilled)
