CHURCHILL, Sir Winston Leonard Spencer (1874-1965). Autograph letter signed ('Winston S. Churchill') to Pamela Plowden, 35a Great Cumberland Place, London, 23 July [1898], 2 pages, 8°.
'YOU EXERCISE A STRANGE FASCINATION OVER ME': an ardent letter, sent with the manuscript of his book 'Affairs of State' [published as Savrola (1900)]: 'I am conscious of its faults ... It is however in some respects the mirror of my mind. I do not know if you will care - even from a psychological point of view - to look into that mirror -- ; but if you do I am sure that it will gain beauty by the reflection'; looking forward to another meeting, Churchill admits 'I shall make no attempt to conceal the fact that you exercise a strange fascination over me'; he asks for her advice with the book, and subscribes himself as 'for some time [your deleted] an admirer & always a friend'.
