A SCOTTISH BASKET-HILTED BACKSWORD
Second quarter of the 18th Century
With earlier slender tapering blade double-edged towards the point and with single full-length fuller on each face struck 'Clemens Broch Ihn Solingen' at the forte, iron guard of slender rounded bars framing incised panels pierced with circles and stylised hearts, fore-guards, broad scrolled rear quillon, fluted pommel, leather-covered wooden grip spirally bound with twisted brass wire, and 19th-century red cloth liner
