A MEROVINGIAN GOLD AND GARNET FINGER RING
Circa 5th Century A.D.
The hoop formed of two wire ropes, joined to the underside of the circular two-stepped bezel by sheet strap and twisted wires, the outer edge grooved, the bezel with nine cloisonnés set with foil-backed garnets in a rosette pattern
13/16 in. (2.1 cm.) wide; ring size 7½
Provenance
Said to have been found in southern Germany.
