A French giant ormolu striking four-glass mantel clock with perpetual calendar and moonphase, circa 1880
With foliate scroll engraved mask to the dials, white enamel Roman dial with recessed centre for visible Desfontaines escapement, signed BREVETÉ/LE ROY & FILS/PAL.S ROYAL G.IE MONPENSIER 13-15/PARIS/296 REGENT STREET/LONDON, blued steel moon hands and sweep seconds, calendar dial below with outer ring indicating month with its zodiacal symbol, days of year calibrated at intervals of 30 for equation of time and date, recessed centre with rolling moonphase and fly-back indication of day of week, the eight day twin barrel movement with Brocot type regulation for steel rod pendulum with gilt-brass bob, strike on bell, stamped on the back plate for maker and numbered 6922, connected to calendar work below, also with manual adjustment for date/month and days/moon and indication of the four year cycle -- 17 1/3in. (44.5cm.) high
