A George III Irish mahogany longcase clock, third quarter 18th century
With rosette carved caps to swan neck pedument, foliate carved cornice below centre by a mask, with outset reeded columns, the long trunk door with arched top and flanked by reeded half columns, with panelled plinth below, the 13in. square cut-away brass dial with mask and foliate spandrels to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring signed John Sanderson/DUBLIN, the matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring (lacking hand and connection), winding holes within silvered collets, circular date aperture (covered, lacking datework), hands now black painted, the eight day four pillar movement with anchor escapement and inside countwheel strike on bell; later seatboard, built up cheekboards, repositioned upper dial feet -- 91¼in. (231cm.) high
