A George III oak longcase clock, circa 1785
The hood with dentil mouldings to stepped flat top, outset turned columns with cast brass Corinthian capitals, arched trunk door flanked by blind-fret carved angles, the plain plinth raised on bracket feet, the 13in. wide cut-away brass dial with foliate scroll spandrels to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, the centre engraved with foliate scrolls and with inner concentric calendar ring, flowerhead engraving around the winding holes, pierced steel hands, the arch with painted rolling moon, signed on a plaque above WM. TICKLE NEWCASTLE, the eight day four pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell -- 81in. (206cm.) high
