CIRCA 1526-1536, WORKSHOP OF MAESTRO GIORGIO ANDREOLI
The central well with a gold lustre medallion reserved with a winged putto walking with his back slightly turned and holding a staff, his wings and the ground beneath his feet enriched with red lustre, the blue-ground border reserved with interlocking scrolls and stylised scrolling foliage enriched in red and gold lustre and green, within a white band, blue line border and gold lustre band rim, the reverse with red lustre scrolls (section from 10 to 7 o'clock broken out and restuck, associated crack to centre, slight chipping and flaking to rim)
9 7/8 in. (25 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

A dish decorated with this technique in the Musée des Arts Decoratifs, Lyon, is illustrated by Carola Fiocco et al, 'Majoliques Italiennes du Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Lyon' Catalogue (Dijon, 2001), no. 99, 143. Another closely similar example in Louvre is illustrated by Jeanne Giacomotti, Catalogue des majoliques des musées nationaux (Paris, 1974), no. 681.
