Super-chancery 4° (207 x 152mm). Roman type, woodcut initials, some coloured in red, printer's device at end, some deckle edges preserved. (Some marginal repairs, few wormholes at beginning, stamp removed from first leaf, occasional light dampstaining on margins.) Modern limp vellum, title in ink on spine, two ties. Provenance: early marginal annotations.

RARE. The Doctrinale is a versified treatise on Latin grammar and it is considered the most important pedagogical work of the Middle Ages. ISTC on-line locates 2 copies only, none in America. Accurti s1930) 7; IGI 330; Polain(B) 4124.
