Signed Tho Tompion, London, No. 3118. Circa 1700
The frosted gilt chain fusee movement with profusely pierced and chased cock and foot to the edge of the top plate, pierced tulip pillars, verge escapement, the silver champlevé dial with engraved and blacked Roman chapters, diamond half-hour marks, inner quarter-hour ring, outer Arabic five-minute divisions, blued steel beetle and poker hands, in plain silver inner case with makers mark W.A. for William Achurch, with split bezel, seven piece hinge and dust cover to the winding hole, the outer case with makers mark W.S. surmounted by a crown and further stamped 3118
53 mm. diam.

Lot Essay

Originally the outer case had square hinges but these have been rounded off to conform to the later style of fashion. At this time it was common that the outer case was made by another maker to that of the inner case.
