A Bronze Figure of Manjuvajra
Northeastern India, Pala Period, 12th Century
Very finely cast, the three-faced figure seated on a double lotus base with beaded rim, wearing a dhoti incised with banded patterns, a foliate belt and a tiered headdress with triangular lappets, the eyes, urna and necklace of the main face inlaid in silver, the lips and necklace inlaid with copper; base sealed and incised with visvavajra

Collection of Prince and Princess Aschwin zur Lippe-Biesterfeld, acquired in 1973.

Lot Essay

The sealed base indicates that the piece was later consecrated in Tibet.
