AN ENGLISH BASKET-HILTED CAVALRY BACKSWORD circa 1610-40
With single-edged blade cut with a series of very narrow fullers over its entire length on both sides, stamped 'Andria Ferara' in small capitals on both sides and struck additionally with a series of Spanish bladesmith's small marks, iron munition hilt of flattened bars carrying a pair of small plain rectangular panels, retaining its original buff leather liner, globular pommel joined to the front of the guard by a small ring-headed screw and original wooden grip retaining a portion of its original binding with 'Turk's heads'.
