With carved giltwood and composition frame to picture showing Mephistopheles and Faust playing chess, the black dial above them with gilt Roman chapters, signed J. Kraupa lower right, brass serpentine hands, the short duration triple spring barrel movement with silk suspension, grande sonnerie strike on two gongs, the back plate stamped KARL SUCHY/PRAG/1652 and with the Austro-Hungarian double eagle, trips to the side for pendulum start and for repeat, hour and half hour trip to musical movement below with 3.5 in. (9 cm.) long pinned cylinder wound from the side, stamped WILLENBACHER & RZEBITSCHEK IN PRAG/540/8558
