Geneva, circa 1780/1800, with prestige marks including maker's mark RR a crown above, the flange struck with inventory number 39 and later with two French import marks for gold 1864-1893, the miniature French, c. 1760
Oval box, the coin-pattern guilloché panels on cover, sides and base coated with translucent royal blue enamel and bordered with opaque white enamel double-beads alternating with opaque blue enamel bands, the lid inset with an oval watercolour and gouache on vellum portrait miniature of King Louis XV of France (1710-1774) wearing armour and a blue velvet and ermine cloak, within a frame of rose-cut diamonds with pierced jewelled royal crown above, the matted gold borders applied with translucent green enamelled leaves and blue and red enamelled leaves, the side dividers similarly enamelled in colours with pilasters
