The locket of pointed oval form, the front with five emeralds inset in a cruciform formation on a ground of enamelled decoration, hinged at the side, the reverse with enamelled geometric decoration surrounding a central floral motif, added suspension loop above, suspended on multiple seed-pearl strands

Lot Essay

Similarly laid-out inset stones and enamelling are found on a necklace in a private collection in Morocco (Abderrahman Slaoui, Parures en Or du Maroc, Casablanca, 1999, pp.112-3; also Maroc, les trésors du royaume, exhibition catalogue, Paris, 1999, no.325, p187). Two similar examples were also noted by Jean Besancenot, (Bijoux arabes et berbères du Maroc, Casablanca, 1953, nos.27-28, pl.IX).
