A copy of the recto is in an album of drawings by Carlo Marchionni (1702-86) in the Louvre (inv. RF 42342). Marchionni, who produced many caricatures also had an important collection of prints and drawings (see B. Ledru, 'Carlo Marchionni (1702-1786): deux albums de dessins acquis par le départment des arts graphiques du Louvre', Revue du Louvre, 1993, 43, no. 3, pp. 28-40).
Attributions to Carlo Maratta and Pier Leone Ghezzi have also been suggested.
