A MOTTLED RUSSET BROWN JADE AXE, FU
SHANG DYNASTY, CIRCA 1600-1100 BC
The broad thickly-cut blade with beveled edge flaring outward at the gently beveled and curved cutting edge, with a hole drilled from both sides, the narrow hafting edge with two small biconical holes for attachment, the stone now opaque and of mottled pale and dark russet color with dark brown veining, with smooth polish
