SAFAVID IRAN, LATE 16TH/EARLY 17TH CENTURY
Arabic manuscript on paper, 380ff. plus 4 fly-leaves, each folio with 3ll. of alternating blue and gold muhaqqaq alternated with two slightly inset panels of 5ll. of neat black naskh, each panel outlined in gold, text within gold, blue and red rules, catchwords, gold roundel verse markers, marginal khams roundels in gold and polychrome, hizb, juz' and nisf marked in blue and gold naskh in the margins, sura headings in white riq'a on gold panels with polychrome illumination and blue outlines, some folios with the sura marked in red in the upper left hand corner, opening bifolio with gold and polychrome illumination surrounding 4ll. of text, following folio with large illuminated headpiece, text of the Qur'an followed by prayer, minor areas of staining, in contemporaneous worn stamped binding with decoupé doublures
