A FINE PAIR OF ITALIAN CUP-HILT DUELLING RAPIERS BEARING THE MONOGRAM OF CHARLES ALBERT, KING OF SARDINIA

Each with slender blade of stiff diamond section with deep gilt fuller cut on each face respectively signed 'FRANCISCO' and 'RUIZ EN TOLEDO', solid shallow steel cup-guard with gold-inlaid band of knotwork and the crowned monogram 'CA' within a laurel wreath and the crowned arms of of Sardinia, outer-guard formed as an eight-petal flower-head each with a spray of gilt scrollwork, the inside of the cup retaining cushioned red-velvet liner, short arms linking the cup to straight quillons each with gilt acorn finial, swelled rayskin-covered grip bound with wire and with gilt ferrule above and below, and cylindrical pommel with a gilt band of foliage and gilt chiselled eight-petal flower-head domed cap
