WIT, Frederick de (1630-1706). Nova Orbis Tabula in lucem edita A.F. de Wit. Amsterdam: Covens and Mortier [ca 1720].
Engraved double-hemisphere world map, with 2 smaller maps of the North and South Poles, fully hand-colored, image 498 x 586 mm (560 x 680 mm sheet). Elaborate decorative fully colored borders, corners with vignettes of the four seasons, title in banner at upper margin, verso blank. (A few tears to margins and fold, minor marginal staining.)
Later state of Mortier's new engraving of de Wit's world map, showing the track of the voyage of Chaumont from Brest to Siam and back in 1685-86. With the imprint of Covens and Mortier and therefore "probably dating from the 1720s" (Shirley 545).
