Lot Essay

Muhammad Nazif was a student of the calligraphers Shafiq Bey and Sami Efendi. He was employed as scribe and calligrapher at the Erkan-i Harbiye department. His compositions are found in the Selimiye Mosque and at the Yildiz Palace. See Muhittin Serin, Hat Sanati ve Meshur Hattatlar, Istanbul, 1999,pp. 162-164.
