Roberts notes that the sitter in this portrait is 'probably Amelia Caroline, daughter of General White, and wife of Joseph Hadfield, Esq., of Broad Street, London a merchant to whom she was married at Low Layton, Essex, on June 16, 1795' (loc. cit.).
