MAYAN JADE FIGURAL PENDANT

Of large rectangular form deeply carved in ‘silhouette style’ with an elaborately-garbed dignitary with a classical Mayan physiognomy with lunate eyes and Roman nose, hands clenched against the chest, adorned with massive jewelry and a tall headdress incorporating a monster’s head with upturned snout, bisected eyes and the whole framed by layered feathers; pierced laterally for suspension.

Lot Essay

Grand pendentif de forme rectangulaire percé sur les côtés pour suspension et profondément incisé d’un motif dans le style des silhouettes avec la représentation d’un dignitaire richement vêtu et à la physionomie habituelle des Maya , aux yeux ronds et avec un nez de type Roman, aux mains repliées sur la poitrine, orné d’imposants bijoux et surmonté d’une haute coiffe où l’on trouve une tête de monstre à la gueule relevée, des yeux coupés en deux parties et entièrement encadré par un plumage.
