Lot Essay

A comparable 'peach blossom' 'month' cup formerly in the collection of Y. C. Chen was sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 29 May 2013, lot 1911. The poem on the reverse was composed by Xue Neng (AD 817-880) and can be translated as: the swallow returns when the blossoms sway in the breeze, the farmer returns to his field in this season late in spring.
