An autograph letter, signed, [n.d. but August 8th, 1960], to a fan, thanking her for everything she's doing for them and accepting her offer of a holiday in Wales, telling her I've seen John since I wrote the first letter [See previous lot] ...& anyway he says he can come too. and indicating his disillusionment with the music business ...This is very nearly definite, see - we were promised some tours of Scotland, road shows, trips to Hamburg & everything but we don't believe any of them & a couple of promises have been broken already, so we'll probably be able to come. We can hitch-hike down there. You asked me if I'm offended by your giving me all these gear things; well, I'm not - I'm flattered and I don't know what to say !... and arranging to meet her I'll see you one day in the Jacaranda is that O.K.? If it is, I'll see you there, one dinner hour...Love & more thanks Paul 2pp.; and corresponding envelope frankmarked Liverpool, August 8th, 1960 (2)

Lot Essay

This letter like the one in the previous lot reveals McCartney's struggle and disillusionment at the start of his career. The vendor, a fan from Liverpool, met The Beatles when they were performing at local dance halls and clubs and particularly got to know them when they played at The Grosvenor in Manor Road, Wallasey where they were popular with everyone except the hall's caretaker who used to complain about the noise. The vendor and her friends used to visit them on Sunday mornings after church, at a flat they used in Gambler Terrace, taking them 'food parcels' as they always seemed to be hard up. (See footnote to previous lot).
