Designed for the international traveller, the Lange 1 Time Zone translates the distinctive visual language of A. Lange & Söhne's most celebrated model into an exceptionally intuitive dual-time wristwatch. In May 2019, it became the fifth chapter of the manufacture's year-long celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Lange 1, with the commemorative edition restricted to just 25 examples in white gold.
Despite the considerable amount of information displayed, the Lange 1 Time Zone retains the clarity and carefully considered asymmetry characteristic of the original Lange 1. Two decentralised dials allow two different time zones to be read simultaneously, while separate day/night indications distinguish between morning and evening in each location. The larger dial can be used for either home or local time, according to the wearer's preference, and remains linked to the watch's signature outsize date. Particularly ingenious is the method by which the second time zone is adjusted. A rotating city ring represents the world's principal time zones, while successive presses of the corrector advance the smaller dial by one-hour increments together with the corresponding city indication. The system allows the wearer to move quickly between time zones without disturbing the principal time display, combining considerable mechanical sophistication with straightforward everyday operation.
For the '25th Anniversary' edition, the model's substantial 41.9 mm. white gold case is paired with an argenté-coloured solid silver dial. Deep blue printing, blued steel hands and blue numerals for the outsize date establish the colour scheme shared by the commemorative series. The same theme extends to the movement visible through the sapphire crystal caseback: the hand-engraved intermediate-wheel cock features blue-filled recessed decoration and bears the anniversary emblem, a relief representation of the outsize date displaying '25'.
