the case with brass finials to the inverted bell top, foliate pierced and engraved brass sound frets to the sides below handles, conforming quarter frets to the front door, on bras ogee bracket feet, the arched dial with silvered chapter ring and matted centre, painted rolling moon to the arch, foliate spandrels, with mock pendulum and date apertures to the centre with silvered plaque signed Jos Martineau Senior LONDON, the twin wire fusee movement now with anchor escapement and strike on bell, elaborately engraved overalll with foliate scrolls on the backplate, with hatched decoration to the movement securing brackets, movement circa 1780, case 19th century -- 15¾in. (40cm.) high
