A Historismus jewelled, pearl-set and enamelled silver-gilt mounted agate bowl
circa 1880, with the 1893-1970 French Importation silver mark
Oval striated grey agate bowl, the slightly domed silver-gilt foot painted with translucent basse-taille enamel depicting butterflies, flowers and leaves, the upper border of the foot with pierced stylised acanthus echoed in the border of the upper rim, sculpted peacocks enamelled in blue and set with red and blue stones, standing on translucent green enamelled leaves, decorated furthermore with flowerheads formed by seed-pearls and red stones, the composition centred by a sculpted silver-gilt statue of Pan seated on a plinth and playing the flute, flanked by garlands of green enamelled leaves, seed-pearls and flowerheads with split-pearl set petals and red-stone set centres
