A SWISS ENAMEL AND GOLD SNUFF-BOX
probably Geneva, circa 1800, the enamel attributed to Jean-Louis Richter
Rectangular box with rounded corners, the cover inset with an oval enamel plaque painted with Alexander the Great sparing the Family of Darius, set on a frosted gold ground, the four corners applied with raised gold scrolls partly enamelled in translucent dark blue, the four side panels chased with leavy circles centred by rosettes on matted gold, the base panel decorated with a basket-wave pattern with dots at the intersections, bordered by a band of scrolls framed by a dark blue enamel band with taille d'épargne gold foliage, the four side corners engraved with foliage enclosing a flowerhead on matted gold panels
