ATTRIBUTED TO JOHANNES VAN DREGT (1737-1807), AMSTERDAM, CIRCA 1790
The cornice with finely-carved acanthus leaf motif, above the parcel-gilt and cream-painted oak panelling inset with panels with leaf-tip borders, centred on each side by a mirror with giltwood acanthus and beaded frame within a surround decorated with blue-painted lozenges with carved arabesque ornament and rosettes, above a white carrara marble chimneypiece to one side decorated with quivers of arrows to the jambs and an acanthus-leaf frieze centred by a sleeping Venus, to the opposing side with a white-and-blue-painted parcel-gilt console on finely carved baluster tapering legs, the dado-rail decorated throughout with stylised Greek-key pattern, the oval overdoor medallions with blue ground, the left medallion depicting Thalia with a scroll in her right hand and two cornucopia beside two putti, the right depicting Ceres and two putti, the larger panels inset with blue silk damask, together with an oak parquet floor
