Americana Week achieved $15,492,330 across four live auctions for an outstanding start to the year.
The top highlights were Martin Johnson Heade’s Fighting Hummingbirds with Pink Orchid and A Portrait of Two Girls by an American School artist, which each sold for $945,000.
The Outsider Art auction totalled $2,064,384, including Winfred Rembert’s The Black Cat realising $302,400 as the top lot. Things Grow in the United States: Works from the Collection of Jane Fonda continued with thriving sales of $277,956.
The American Art category saw impressive overall results of $8,899,254. The sales established world records for Titian Ramsey Peale, Sarah Miriam Peale, and John George Brown’s A Thrilling Moment, which achieved $819,000 in the 19th Century American Art sale.
Important Americana concluded the series with a total of $4,535,244, highlighted by lively bidding across the range of fine and decorative arts.
