THE FOH COLLECTION
A Special Exhibition Celebrating Five Decades of Collecting Chinese Modern Paintings
Celebrating an incredible journey of collecting Chinese paintings over five decades, Christie’s is honoured to present a non-selling exhibition of the Foh Collection. Join us for a rare glimpse of the Collection assembled thoughtfully by pioneering Singaporean collectors Foh Kim Hong and his wife Ms Chan Siew Fong.
The Plum Ripens – Buddhist Art Along the Chinese Silk Road
The works in the current exhibition tell the story of Buddhism’s transmission along the Chinese silk road and various trade routes, from India eastward to the Korean Peninsula, northward to Mongolia, and southward to Yunan and southern China.
Buddhism is unique amongst world religions in its inclusive nature, and often assimilate local beliefs into its theology, be it Bon of Tibet, Shamanism of Jurchen, Benzhuism of Yunnan or Daoism of China. These variations come together to create a symphony that is rich and multifarious, vibrating throughout Asia.
The early works include those from the Sixteen Kingdoms, Northern Wei, Balhae and Sila Kingdoms; while the classical period include those from Tang, Tubo, Guge, Five Dynasty, Liao, Xixia and Dali Kingdom. We end the exhibition with Yuan and Ming, where we witness the influence of Nepal and Catholicism on Buddhism.
An Exhibition of Important Chinese Jades from the Robert Chang Collection
An excellent eye with an enduring passion for beauty and exquisitely made objects, is how one would describe Mr. Robert Chang’s incredible collecting life over the span of almost a century.
Mr. Chang made collecting his lifetime hobby: at first he started with modern Chinese paintings and then went on to Imperial Qing dynasty ceramics. He did not stop there however, and has continued over the years with cloisonne enamels, rhinoceros horn carvings, snuff bottles and eventually to jade carvings.
This May, Christie’s Hong Kong is honoured to present this non-selling collection and would like to thank Mr. Chang for his immense generosity in sharing his passion with fellow enthusiasts and collectors.
This October, Christie’s is honored to present Rothschild Masterpieces, a series of auctions in New York. With collections dating back to the late 18th century, the Rothschilds are famed for their curated trove of extraordinary works of fine and decorative arts that form the interiors of their homes across Europe.
