Title within woodcut allegorical border, the border repeated on following two pages, framing arms and portrait of the dedicatee, Philip, King of Spain, double-page engraved map by C.D. Hooghe, 15 double-page woodcut maps and views and one double-page engraved view of Antwerp Town Hall by Martin Peter, on guards, woodcut ornamental borders to section titles, ornamental initials. (Some browning and spotting, dampstain at corners, repaired in two leaves, one marginal tear at guard, map torn without loss and mounted.) Later vellum, leather spine label lettered in gilt, speckled edges (very light worming on lower cover). Provenance: some early annotations; 18th-century monogram B.M. stamped on portrait verso.

First edition of an important topographical account of the Low Countries, illustrated by accurate maps and views. The text also describes the arts and commerce, and names famous sons and daughters of the regions. A French edition, translated anonymously, was published the same year; the Italian edition is considered much rarer. Adams G-1540; Belgica Typographica 1360; Brunet II, 1806.
