A MUDJUR PRAYER RUG
CENTRAL ANATOLIA, THIRD QUARTER 19TH CENTURY
The shaded rust-red field within a hooked blue floral frame, the stepped grass-green mihrab arch with stylised ibriqs and polychrome serrated frame, a polychrome arrowhead arcaded cross-panel above, in a golden yellow border of open floral lozenges executed in a variety of colours between inner light blue linked lozenge, outer charcoal-grey flowerhead and minor reciprocal stripes, even wear, repiling, small repairs, damage in left hand border, slight tattered upper end
Approximately 6ft.2in. x 4ft.7in. (188cm. x 140cm.)
Warp: white wool Z2S, slightly depressed, undulating
Weft: 2 or 4 shoots irregularly alternating red wool Z1, symmetrical inclining to the left, H2.7 x V3.5/cm.
Sides: additional green wool yarn Z2S, bound flatwoven around an additional warp and an additional pair of warps, main weft returning around this additional warp
Lower end: flatwoven with green wool Z1
Remarks: displaced knotting
