Lot Essay

There is a closely related pair of standing lamps by Hancock and Rixon of Great Marlborough Street in the collection of the Duke of Devonshire at Chatsworth, Derbyshire. One of them is illustrated in Temple Newsam Country House Studies, Country House Lighting 1660-1890, Leeds, 1992, p. 87-8, cat. no. 71.
