A William and Mary tortoiseshell striking bracket clock

The case with large double-S scoll handle to the cushion-moulded top applied with foliate cast gilt mounts, similar sound frets to the front door and sides, the moulded base on block feet, the 17.5 cm. sq. dial with silvered chapter ring and later blued steel hands, matted centre with mock pendulum aperture, winged cherub spandrels, the massive seven ringed pillar movement with pull quarter repeat on three bells and hour strike on further bell, knife-edge verge escapement, the backplate profusely engraved with foliage and flower heads and with visible ratchet-and-clicks beneath the signature John Eagle Londini Fecit within a foliate cartouche, the movement secured to the case with steel backplate brackets and bolts through the base into the bottom pillars
