A gilt bronze figure of Maitreya
Tibet, 17th Century
Seated in dhyanasana on a double lotus base with beaded rim, his hands in dharmacakra mudra and holding the stems of two lotus flowers supporting a kalasa and cakra at his shoulders, wearing a long dhoti, beaded belt and collar with tear-shaped pendants, his face with a benign expression flanked by rosette earrings and surmounted by an elaborate tiara with tresses of hair falling alongside his shoulders, on a separate stepped throne draped with a blanket centering two small images of Buddha and attached with a backplate finely chased with scrolling flames, richly gilt overall
