The body and cover enamelled with peonies in various stages of bloom, with borders of Buddhist emblems at the rims, auspicious iron-red Zao Cai Jin Bao marks, the cup similarly decorated with a saw-toothed border beneath the rim on the exterior, minor nicks

Lot Essay

The basic shape of the wine-warmer is similar to that of a chupu, except that the wine-warmer ispotted more thivkly to retain heat and is turned in at the mouth to provide a supporting rim for the conical winecup.
