A RARE FAMILLE ROSE PENANG-GREEN-GROUND 'KWA-CHEE' BOX AND COVER IRON-RED TONGZHI MARK AND OF THE PERIOD

Enamelled around the circular box and cover with leafy branches issuing peony blooms in various stages of growth, the box moulded with five interior compartments, each finely embellished with a seasonal flower spray, small rim chips
5 1/4 in. (13.3 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

Compare with a near identical kwa-chee box illustrated by Ho Wing Meng, op. cit., fig. 54. Other similar containers were also sold in these Rooms, 27 March 1994, lot 127A, and 25 March 1995, lot 71.
