A similar unsigned picture of a woman at a loom based on an illustration in Ehon Chiyomigusa (1740) by Nishikawa Sukenobu was issued as a calendar print in 1765 (see Yoshida Teruji, Harunobu zenshu [Tokyo: Takamizawa Mokuhansha, 1942], no. 299; and Helen C. Gunsaulus, Harunobu, Koryusai, Shigemasa, their Followers and Contemporaries, in The Clarence Buckingham Collection of Japanese Prints [Chicago: The Art Institute, 1965], no. 32). The picture shown here with the child and the pink background was probably published the following year. The signature may be a later addition since all other impressions appear to be unsigned.
