A George III mahogany and ormolu-mounted striking bracket clock with alarm
John Taylor, London; fourth quarter 18th century
The case with gilt pineapple finials to the bell top decorated with ormolu swags, handles to the sides with gilt-metal cast sound frets, foliate-cast gilt-metal quarter frets to the front door, gilt-brass bracket feet, the dial signed John Taylor London on a silvered signature plaque in the matted centre with subsidiary calendar aperture and central silvered alarm disc with milled band, silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with pierced blued steel hands, a foliate spandrels, strike/silent ring in the arch, the five pillar twin fusee movement with verge escapement and strike/alarm on bell, pull-wind alarm spring mounted to the backplate engraved with foliage and a central urn, pendulum holdfast and similarly engraved movement securing brackets;
