A 12-inch (30.5cm.) diameter terrestrial globe made of twelve hand-coloured printed paper gores, the equatorial graduated in degrees and days, the ecliptic graduated in days of the month and days of the houses of the Zodiac, the oceans marked with steamship routes and lines of variation, and analemma in the eastern Pacific Ocean, a note in the northern Pacific Ocean beneath the cartouche The lines of Magnetic variation are adopted from Professor Peter Barlow's Chair in the transactions of the Royal Society for 1833, the continents showing major mountain ranges, rivers and towns, and outlined in green (much detail obscured by old varnish, some patches of varnish missing), with metal axis, brass graduated meridian circle and hour ring, mounted on a mahogany tripod stand, the papered horizon (with worn and discoloured varnish) supported by three baluster turned fluted feet, with turned cross stretchers supporting centre post -- 18½in. (47cm.) high
