A Very Rare 150-Bore Russian Snap-Lock Rifle, And A 15-Bore German Flintlock Fowling-Piece
The first late 17th Century, the second mid-18th Century
The first with shortened swamped octagonal sighted barrel, flat lock (one retaining screw replaced) with hand-operated swivelling pan-cover with pierced thumbpiece, the pan with fan-shaped fence, fruitwood full stock (minor chips) inlaid with shaped staghorn panels, some inlaid with mother-of-pearl pellets set within dark horn washers, the cheek-piece including three pierced staghorn panels and further staghorn panels engraved with stylised foliage, horn-inlaid patch-box cover, iron trigger-guard, and later iron ramrod (iron parts lightly pitted); the second with two-stage slightly belled barrel with brass spider fore-sight (barrel-pins missing, muzzle chipped), rounded border engraved lock with safety-catch, later moulded figured walnut full stock, cast and chased brass mounts including side-plate and butt-plate both depicting a hunting scene in a wooded landscape (trigger-plate missing), gilt patch-box cover cast and chased with a boar-hunting scene (gilding worn), and later brass-tipped ramrod
