A late 17th/early 18th-Century Bloud-type ivory azimuth diptych dial,
unsigned, with silver calender volvelle on the underside, the ellipse pierced and decorated with scrolls and an hour-scale engraved VII-I/XII-V, the iron needle with brass cap, the lower surface of the compass box inscribed with the latitudes of twenty-four continental cities and towns, the inside of the lid with perpetual calendar scale and lunar volvelle, the horizontal plate with folding arm to support the lid with latitude scale, the upper surface with dial and punched maple leaf decoration, one side fitted with hook to conceal the detachable pin gnomon, the front with two silver hooks and eyes -- 2.7/8in. (7.3cm.) long (ivory with some old fatigue cracks)
