A finely engineered museum display quality 1/12th scale model of a Yates Cross Compound Jet Condensing Horizontal Mill Engine of circa 1885
modelled by A. Walshaw No.187 with brass bound mahogany lagged cylinders 1 and 2in. bores x 4in. stroke, mahogany lagged valve chests with pressure relief valves, displacement lubricators, studded stuffing boxes, slipper type crosshead guides, barrelled connecting rods with wedged and bolted big and little ends, shaped cranks, the crankshaft running in two main bearings with oil boxes, pierced eccentrics, the rods with valve rod joints supported in slipper type bearing/guides, centrally mounted flywheel built in two halves with barring holes and gear ring and countershaft. Further details include belt driven Yates governor which operates a Meyer type slide valve mounted on the inside of the HP slide valve, additional emergency governor connected to a butterfly valve in the main inlet tract, and wth a mahogany lagged inlet pipe with main stop valve, LP crosshead driven underfloor mounted condenser, air and feed pumps and associated pipework, the whole finished in black and polished brightwork and mounted on a simulated terracotta and black tiled floor and brick and stone plinth, the engine bed with handrails -- 17 x 34in. (43.8 x 86.4cm.) Display base.
