A fine museum display quality 1/5 scale model of the Atkinson Patent Differential Gas Engine originally built by the British Gas Engineering Co. Ltd, London, circa 1885
and modelled by A. Walshaw No.186 with horizontal cylinder 1.3/8in. bore x 2.1/8in. stroke with central watercooled cylinder head, the pistons with rocking levers and links connected to a common overmounted disc crank, the crankshaft running in two bearings supported by the engine frame with eccentric and rocking lever operated inlet valve, belt driven horizontal governor and spoked flywheel. Other details include water piping, gas pipe, valve and flow bag, exhaust pipe and valve, mixture control and hot tube and spark ignition, the whole finished in red with black lining, black and polished brightwork and mounted on a simulated black and white tiled floor with handrailings -- 18 x 17in. (45.7 x 43.2cm.) Display base.
