A small Bezalel silver Megillat Esther case
Maker's mark of the Bezalel School of Art and Crafts, Jerusalem, 1927
The plain tapering handle decorated with two applied ornamented bands, the moulded domed edges of the case with applied filigree decoration of floral ornaments and segmented by beading lines, the cylindrical body chased with floral decorations, inscribed in Hebrew and English: [gift] to the patrons of Bezalel and Membership of Bezalel 1927, the center with oval cartouche depicting a scene from the Esther story, the thumbpiece inscribed in Hebrew and English Bezalel Yerushalayim and Made in Jerusalem, the case surmounted by a baluster finial and containing a miniature lithographed Megillat Esther on paper, paper 3 cm high, column 2 cm high, 14 lines per column, each column beginning with the word ha-Melekh (ha-Melekh Megillah), with five coloured illustrations by Ze'ev Raban (not signed).
