Signed Kashu Ju Miochin Kino Munehisa and Kao, Edo Period (18th Century)
The severe mask well forged in the style of the Miochin Yoshi Ryu, the russet iron surface smooth without wrinkles has standing flanges on each cheek as a protection for the helmet cord, a simple straight nose is held in place by two rectangular hinges, the upper lip a separate plate riveted on above a simple small mouth devoid of teeth, beneath the chin is a short tube which acts as a drain, interior lacquered red. the throat defence of five lames elegantly curved and laced with dark blue spaced lacing, joined to the mask by a band of brocade
