This work gives detailed descriptions of the buildings and their contents of the Winter Palace, the Summer Palace, the Anichkov and Marble Palaces in St. Petersburg, and of the palaces and estates of Petergof, Oranienbaum, Tsarskoe selo, Aleksandrovsk and Pavlovsk. Volume I includes a dictionary of 18th-century artists whose works are represented in the Imperial collections.
