A fine 2.3/8-inch (6cm.) diameter miniature terrestrial globe made up of twelve hand-coloured engraved gores, the equator and prime meridian graduated in degrees, the latter running through Iceland, the ecliptic ungraduated, the continents delicately outlined in orange, green, yellow, red and purple and showing rivers, mountains and some cities, Antarctica with Wilk Ld shown, Tasmania labelled Van Diemens L., with brass axis pins in square fruitwood box with indistinct hand-writing in ink along the bottom inside edge, secured by a brass hook and eye, the lid applied with a hand-coloured engraved cartouche depicting three students with two globes and a map with foliate decoration surround, the initials .M. written in ink at the top, the box -- 3 x 3 x 2in. (8.2 x 8.2 x 7cm.)

The labelling of the Antarctic and Tasmania date this globe's manufacture to between the discovery of Wilkes Land in 1842, and the naming of Tasmania in 1846.
